Task / activities

We all agree that: „Sustainable development is concerned with the creation and the sustaining of the conditions for current and future generations of humans to live well on this planet. The notion of sustainable development says: ’Sustainable development is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Hence, right from the beginning, a multi-prong approach to the idea of a sustainable society was taken that went beyond concerns for only the destruction of the natural environment and included the concern for meeting the essential needs of all people and that those needs are met in a sustainable way in consideration of the needs of future generations, including concern for equitable access to, and distribution of, resources.“

In this Unit, you will once again learn the connection between human society, and economic and environmental conditions from the ethical aspect. You will watch the introductory video. Using the information from the video, you will have a chance to answer some questions.  Also, you will have an opportunity to check your understanding of the problems using a short test with the odd words.

Please, read a short text about ethical problems in the sustainability development area or  read an article written by Anastasia Nasibulina about the ethical approach to sustainability in the Baikal region. After reading the article, a short test will be given to you.
